Highway Crash Trends in Metro Atlanta
Major highways like I-20 are among the busiest routes in Atlanta and see high traffic volumes throughout the day and night. Interchanges, such as the one at Hamilton E Holmes Dr NW, are particularly prone to collisions due to frequent merging, speed variance, and limited visibility.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, a substantial portion of injury-related accidents in Atlanta occurs on highways during evening hours. These conditions often involve higher speeds and reduced reaction times, making injury crashes more likely.
Motorists can reduce risks by maintaining safe following distances, using signals clearly, and adjusting speeds appropriately near ramps and exits. Following an accident, those involved should seek immediate care, document the incident, and consult with professionals if necessary to manage insurance or legal issues.
