Highway-Adjacent Collisions in Georgia
Intersections connecting city streets to major highways, such as Cheshire Bridge Rd and I-85 S, present unique challenges for drivers. The transition from local traffic speeds to highway merging lanes can create sudden braking, lane changes, and visibility issues, factors that increase the likelihood of injury-causing accidents. According to the Georgia Department of
Transportation, highway-adjacent intersections are among the top locations for traffic collisions in metropolitan areas, particularly during weekend travel peaks. Safety officials encourage drivers to remain alert when approaching merge points, signal lane changes well in advance, and allow adequate following distances. Infrastructure improvements, such as better signage and lane markings, are ongoing efforts in Atlanta to improve safety at high-risk intersections.
