Auburn, CA (September 16, 2025) – A tragic collision on Tuesday morning claimed the life of a bicyclist after they were struck by a vehicle on the southbound Riverside Avenue onramp to westbound Interstate 80. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:44 a.m. in the Auburn area of Placer County, resulting in a full closure of the onramp and prompting a response from multiple emergency agencies.
Initial reports from the California Highway Patrol confirm that a white Lexus or silver Toyota sedan collided with the cyclist at the entrance to the freeway. Witnesses indicated that the bicyclist was unresponsive immediately following the impact. Traffic began backing up on the offramp as first responders rushed to the scene, including Roseville Fire Department, CHP Auburn, and Roseville Police.
Emergency medical crews arrived quickly and began efforts to assist the injured individual. Sadly, the bicyclist succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The Placer County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded shortly after 11:15 a.m.
The entire onramp was closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene and Roseville Fire handled cleanup. The onramp was fully reopened by approximately 12:40 p.m.
Officials have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
