Aurora, CO (August 1, 2025) – A suspected hit-and-run crash involving three vehicles led to one person being hospitalized and a 17-year-old being detained on Friday morning in Aurora.
Aurora Police Department reported that the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. near S Buckley Rd and S Pitkin Way. Initial findings indicate that a northbound Hyundai rear-ended a Subaru, prompting a chain reaction that also involved a Dodge Charger. The teen driving the Hyundai reportedly fled the scene on foot.
In an unusual turn of events, the driver of the Subaru chased the fleeing suspect and detained him near E Arizona Dr and S Buckley Rd until police arrived. No weapons were involved, and charges are expected to be filed against the teenager, including for hit-and-run.
The Subaru driver was transported to a local hospital with injuries. The driver of the Charger was unharmed, and the vehicle had only minor damage.
Traffic delays were minimal, although the left northbound lane of S Buckley Rd was temporarily closed during the investigation.
Hit-and-Runs in Aurora Often Involve Younger Drivers and Multi-Vehicle Chain Reactions
Incidents like this highlight the unpredictable and high-stakes nature of roadway interactions, especially on high-traffic corridors such as S Buckley Rd. Aurora has seen a rise in collisions involving younger drivers, and hit-and-run events remain a persistent concern for law enforcement.
Aurora PD continues to urge drivers, especially those under 21, to stay at the scene after an accident and follow legal protocol to ensure safety for all involved.
