Aurora, MO (August 28, 2025) – A 65-year-old man from Aurora suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle crash Tuesday evening after being forced off the road by a hit-and-run driver. The incident occurred around 6:17 p.m. at the intersection of Lawrence County Road 2210 and Business 60, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Troopers reported that the motorcyclist was operating a 2000 Yamaha VStar 1100 eastbound when a Chevrolet truck—also traveling eastbound—ran him off the roadway. The truck fled the scene before officers could make contact. Its model year and other identifying details remain unknown.
Despite wearing a helmet and using proper safety gear, the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. His motorcycle sustained minor damage and was later secured by a family member.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate and is seeking information about the Chevrolet truck and its driver.
We extend our deepest concern to the injured rider and hope for his full and timely recovery.
Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crashes in Missouri
Motorcycle crashes involving hit-and-run drivers are especially dangerous due to the vulnerability of the rider and the delay in medical assistance if the incident isn’t immediately reported. In this case, the driver of the Chevrolet truck fled the scene after allegedly running the motorcycle off the road—an act that may lead to criminal charges once identified.
In Missouri, fleeing the scene of a crash that causes injury is a serious offense. Unfortunately, hit-and-run incidents remain common on rural and semi-rural roadways like Lawrence 2210 and Business 60, where traffic may be light and accountability harder to establish.
Motorcyclists face heightened risks even in the best of conditions. Without the protection of a vehicle frame, they rely heavily on visibility, defensive riding, and the attention of other drivers. When a careless or aggressive driver fails to maintain proper spacing or merges unsafely, the consequences can be life-altering.
For victims like the man injured in this crash, recovering physically is just one part of the process. Identifying the at-fault party, managing medical expenses, and handling insurance challenges are also critical—and often overwhelming—parts of the post-accident experience.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit-and-run motorcycle crash, it’s crucial to take action as soon as possible.
