Austin, TX (January 1, 2025) – A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the iConic South 1st apartments, located at 4313 S. 1st St near West St. Elmo Rd, sending three children to the hospital and leaving several families displaced. The fire started shortly before 2 a.m., prompting numerous emergency calls, according to the Austin Fire Department (AFD).
Firefighters arrived to find intense flames spreading from the second floor into the attic. Four apartments were affected, two of which were vacant. Emergency crews from Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) transported three children to Dell Children’s Medical Center for treatment of smoke inhalation. Additionally, one adult received treatment on the scene but did not require hospitalization.
