Pedestrian Fatalities in Missouri
The fatal hit-and-run on MO-39 underscores the dangers pedestrians face on Missouri’s roadways, particularly in rural areas where lighting and visibility are often limited. Pedestrian crashes in Barry County and other parts of the state frequently involve factors such as impaired driving, speeding, or distracted driving, and when a driver leaves the scene, it compounds the tragedy by delaying medical assistance and denying accountability.
Missouri continues to see troubling numbers of pedestrian fatalities each year. Troop D, which covers southwest Missouri, reported this case as its 96th roadway fatality for 2025. These incidents highlight the urgent need for both motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution—drivers by slowing down and remaining vigilant, and pedestrians by using crosswalks and reflective clothing whenever possible.
