Barry County, MO (September 1, 2025) – Two motorcyclists suffered serious injuries on Saturday morning following a three-vehicle collision on MO-76 at MO-EE, approximately five miles west of Cape Fair, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at around 11:40 a.m. when a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer traveling westbound on MO-76 began making a left-hand turn into a private driveway near a hillcrest on a curve. At the same time, two eastbound motorcycles, a 2010 Aprilia RSV4 and a 2021 Aprilia RSV4, struck the Jeep and its attached trailer as it was turning.
Both motorcyclists, identified as a 31-year-old man from Arkansas and a 36-year-old man from Fayetteville, AR, sustained serious injuries. The younger rider was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, while the older rider was airlifted from the scene by LifeFlight to the same facility for emergency care.
Troopers confirmed that both motorcycles were extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene by Schrader’s Wrecker. The Jeep Wagoneer, which sustained only minor damage, was driven away by its 50-year-old male driver from Arizona, who was reportedly uninjured.
Authorities with Troop D are continuing to investigate the crash and any contributing factors. The hillcrest and curve at the site of the collision are known to reduce visibility, which may have played a role in the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured riders and their families as they begin the long road to recovery.
Motorcycle Crashes in Missouri
Riding a motorcycle offers freedom and agility on the road, but as this recent crash on MO-76 demonstrates, it also comes with significant risks, especially on rural highways with curves, hills, and limited visibility.
Missouri’s scenic backroads, like the stretch west of Cape Fair, can be both beautiful and dangerous. The hillcrest where Saturday’s crash occurred likely obstructed the view of the turning Jeep until it was too late for the eastbound motorcyclists to react. Unfortunately, such scenarios are common contributors to serious motorcycle crashes statewide.
Both riders in this incident suffered significant trauma and required emergency medical attention, one of whom had to be airlifted. This illustrates the vulnerability of motorcyclists, even when safety devices are used, as motorcycles offer limited protection in multi-vehicle collisions.
Drivers of larger vehicles must remain especially cautious when turning across traffic, particularly on roads where visibility is compromised. Failing to account for an oncoming motorcycle can result in devastating consequences.
For injured motorcyclists, the path to recovery often involves extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and time away from work. Navigating insurance claims, understanding your rights, and securing proper compensation can be overwhelming without support.
