Barton Co, MO – Two Injured in Crash on US-160 Near Lamar

September 7, 2025

Barton County, MO (September 7, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on US-160, about one mile west of Lamar, left two women injured on Friday afternoon. The collision was investigated by Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and was reported around 4:22 p.m.

According to the crash report, the incident occurred when an eastbound 2018 GMC Sierra, driven by a 51-year-old man from Asbury, struck a 2006 Chrysler 300 that was attempting a turn. After the impact, the Chrysler ran off the roadway and struck a sign.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 73-year-old woman from Lamar, and her 43-year-old female passenger, also from Lamar, both sustained minor injuries. They were transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin for treatment. The driver of the Sierra was not injured.

The GMC sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. The Chrysler, which was totaled in the crash, was towed by Parks Towing of Lamar. Our thoughts go out to the victims as we hope for their recovery.

Turning Collision Risks on US-160

Highways like US-160, which serve both local and through traffic, often present elevated risks during turning maneuvers. Misjudging the speed or distance of oncoming vehicles can quickly result in collisions, particularly when traffic is moving at highway speeds.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, failure to yield during turns remains one of the leading causes of injury crashes on rural highways. These incidents frequently result in significant damage and injuries, especially for occupants of passenger cars.

For victims, even minor injuries can require hospital visits, therapy, and time away from work. Prompt medical care and thorough documentation are important steps for recovery and insurance purposes.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution when making turns onto or across highways like US-160, ensuring the roadway is clear before proceeding.
