Benjamin, UT (August 8, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision caused major traffic disruptions on Thursday morning on southbound Interstate 15 near the community of Benjamin, just south of Spanish Fork in Utah County. The crash, which resulted in minor injuries, left vehicles and debris scattered across the highway and led to extended backups for commuters.
According to Trooper Takesha Durrant with the Utah Highway Patrol, both vehicles ended up in separate positions following the collision, one coming to rest in the center median and the other off the right shoulder. Although no hospital transport was required, emergency responders evaluated those involved on-site and confirmed the injuries were minor.
Debris from the crash was spread across multiple lanes, and at least one lane was shut down temporarily as crews worked to clear the roadway. Motorists reported delays stretching for several miles as traffic slowed significantly through the southern end of Utah County.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released details on the identities of the drivers involved.
We’re thankful that injuries were not severe and extend our best wishes to all those impacted.
I-15 Collisions and Commuter Disruption in Utah County
Interstate 15 serves as a critical corridor for commuters, freight carriers, and long-distance travelers in Utah County. Crashes along this route, especially during high-traffic morning hours, can create substantial delays and risk additional incidents due to sudden slowdowns and debris hazards. The collision Thursday near Spanish Fork is one of many examples where even minor injuries can still lead to major traffic consequences.
Highway crashes often result from factors like sudden lane changes, speed variations, weather conditions, or distracted driving. When vehicles end up in both the median and shoulder, it not only complicates cleanup but also increases the risk of secondary crashes if drivers don’t have clear visibility or space to maneuver safely.
Even when injuries are classified as minor, individuals involved in highway collisions may later develop symptoms such as soft tissue damage or post-accident stress. Additionally, vehicle damage, insurance negotiations, and follow-up medical visits can become time-consuming and overwhelming for victims.
For those affected by highway collisions, having access to clear information and recovery resources is critical.
