Benton Co, MO (September 25, 2025) – A serious head-on collision occurred Wednesday evening on Route Z east of Bent Tree Drive in Benton County, resulting in three people injured—one of them seriously. The crash involved two vehicles and was investigated by Troop A of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:34 p.m. when a westbound 2011 Ford Edge, driven by a 32-year-old male from Warsaw, was reportedly traveling in the wrong lane on Route Z. A 2017 Ford Transit van, traveling eastbound and driven by a 38-year-old Warsaw woman, attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but both vehicles ultimately collided head-on.
Both the Ford Edge and the Ford Transit van sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Twin Lakes. The male driver of the Ford Edge, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Warsaw Lincoln Ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.
The female driver of the Transit van, who was wearing her seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital. A 43-year-old male passenger in the van also sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial in Clinton.
The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released any additional information on possible contributing factors such as impairment or mechanical failure.
Our thoughts are with all three individuals injured in this serious crash, especially the driver of the Ford Edge, as they begin the recovery process.
Head-On Collisions and Rural Roadway Risks in Missouri
Crashes like the one that occurred Wednesday on Route Z illustrate the life-threatening dangers of head-on impacts, especially on rural roadways with limited visibility, narrow shoulders, and few median barriers. When a vehicle crosses into an oncoming lane at highway speeds, the force of impact can be devastating—even when safety restraints are used.
In this case, the Ford Edge was reportedly in the wrong lane, creating a split-second decision for the driver of the Transit van. While evasive actions were attempted, the vehicles still collided. The driver who sustained serious injuries was not wearing a seatbelt—a critical safety lapse that often contributes to the severity of trauma in head-on crashes.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, rural counties like Benton continue to see a disproportionate number of fatal and severe injury crashes. Factors such as fatigue, distraction, and reduced road infrastructure often play a role. Head-on collisions account for some of the most dangerous crash types, frequently leading to life-altering injuries, long-term disability, or death.
For those injured in crashes like this, recovery extends far beyond the initial hospital visit. Victims may face extensive medical care, emotional trauma, and financial strain from lost wages and ongoing treatment. Early access to support systems—both medical and legal—can make a significant difference in the recovery process.
