Billings, MO (May 14, 2025) – Emergency responders from Billings Fire and Rescue were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning that resulted in a variety of injuries and required immediate medical attention and towing services. The incident took place around 7:25 a.m. at the intersection of NE Oak St and E Washington Ave in Christian County.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision, which involved a 2022 Ford F-150 and a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. Authorities reported that Vehicle 2, the Ford F-150 traveling eastbound, failed to yield and struck the driver’s side of Vehicle 1, the northbound Silverado. The impact left both vehicles heavily damaged and at rest within the intersection.
The driver of the Silverado, a 75-year-old man from Billings, was wearing a seatbelt at the time and sustained injuries. He was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for further treatment. The 32-year-old male driver of the F-150, also a Billings resident, also sustained injuries but declined medical transport after being treated at the scene. Both vehicles were towed from the site by Hillbilly’s Towing due to extensive damage.
Officers from Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop D responded to investigate the crash. The roadway was temporarily disrupted as officials documented the scene and cleared debris. The investigation is ongoing, with failure to yield being cited as the preliminary cause of the collision.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we hope for their full and swift recovery.
Car Accidents in Missouri
Missouri roadways, especially intersections in smaller communities like Billings, often see serious collisions due to right-of-way violations and other preventable behaviors. The recent crash at NE Oak St and E Washington Ave highlights a common but dangerous error—failure to yield—which continues to be a leading factor in injury-causing crashes across the state.
Intersections require heightened driver awareness due to the complex decision-making involved. In this case, the driver of the Ford F-150 allegedly entered the intersection without yielding, resulting in a side-impact collision—a type of crash that frequently leads to serious injuries for vehicle occupants, especially older adults. The 75-year-old man involved was wearing a seatbelt, which likely helped minimize the severity of his injuries, though he still required hospital care.
Christian County, where this crash occurred, has seen multiple incidents at controlled and uncontrolled intersections in recent years. Local authorities often stress the need for defensive driving and enhanced public awareness campaigns to reduce the number of preventable crashes. Public safety teams, along with organizations such as the Missouri Department of Transportation, offer resources aimed at educating drivers on right-of-way laws and defensive techniques that can make a difference.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down at intersections, double-check for oncoming traffic, and never assume the intentions of other drivers. Additionally, older drivers may face increased risks due to slower reaction times or reduced visibility. Community-based programs can help assess driving fitness for older adults and provide safer mobility options when needed.
