Bollinger, MO (July 13, 2025) – First responders, including paramedics, assessed and treated individuals hurt in the crash following a head-on collision on County Rd 324, roughly five miles south of Scopus in Bollinger County. The incident took place around 3:08 p.m. Friday afternoon and involved two vehicles: a 2003 Honda CR-V and a 2014 Ford Edge.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they entered a curve and collided head-on in the middle of the roadway. The Honda, driven by an 18-year-old woman, and the Ford, driven by a 35-year-old woman, were both moderately damaged. Each vehicle was removed from the scene by either the owner or a family friend.
Both drivers, residents of Marble Hill, sustained injuries in the collision. The younger woman was transported by private vehicle to St. Francis Medical Center, while the older driver was taken by ambulance to the same hospital for treatment.
Trooper A.R. Shipley led the investigation into the crash, which remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with both women involved, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
Rural Roadway Accidents in Missouri
Rural roadways in Missouri, especially those with narrow lanes and sharp curves like County Rd 324 in Bollinger County, are particularly prone to centerline collisions. In this case, the head-on crash between two vehicles navigating a curve in opposite directions highlights the critical importance of maintaining proper lane discipline and reducing speed when approaching bends.
Drivers in rural areas often face reduced visibility and tighter turns that require slower travel and increased attentiveness. When vehicles drift slightly over the centerline on curved roads, even momentary lapses in steering control can result in serious accidents.
Both drivers in this incident were wearing seatbelts, a factor that likely minimized the severity of their injuries. Safety officials continue to emphasize the role of proper restraint use, especially on rural two-lane roads that present heightened risks due to road design and limited shoulder space.
Motorists are reminded to approach curves with caution, remain centered in their lane, and reduce speed when road conditions demand it. These simple practices can help prevent tragic outcomes on Missouri’s rural highways.
