Boone Co, MO (September 23, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision resulted in injuries Monday morning on US-63 northbound near Breedlove Dr. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 10:34 a.m. when a 2013 Kia Soul, traveling behind a 2019 Peterbilt truck, struck the rear of the commercial vehicle. The impact forced the Kia off the roadway, where it came to rest in a ravine.
The driver of the Kia, a 29-year-old woman from Moberly, was not wearing a seatbelt and sustained injuries. She was transported by EMS to University Hospital in Columbia for treatment. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 44-year-old man from Columbia, was not hurt and was able to drive his truck away from the scene. The Kia was totaled and removed by Tiger Towing.
Emergency responders worked to assist the injured driver and clear the roadway, while traffic in the right lane of northbound US-63 was temporarily slowed.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we wish her a full recovery.
Rear-End Collisions in Missouri
The crash on US-63 near Breedlove Dr highlights the risks of rear-end collisions, particularly on highways where speed and following distance play critical roles in driver safety. When one vehicle strikes another from behind, the resulting force can cause secondary incidents, such as vehicles running off the roadway, as happened in Monday’s crash.
In Missouri, rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of accidents, often caused by distracted driving, tailgating, or failure to adjust to changing traffic conditions. The risks become more severe when smaller passenger vehicles collide with larger commercial trucks, as the size and weight differences often lead to greater damage and higher injury risks.
Safety officials encourage drivers to maintain safe following distances, avoid distractions like phones, and always wear seatbelts. Even minor collisions can result in injuries when occupants are unrestrained, underscoring the importance of seatbelt use at all times.
