Bossier Parish, LA (September 1, 2025) – Emergency responders from Louisiana State Police and local fire units were dispatched early on Sunday morning following a deadly two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3 near Alden Bridge Loop. The collision, which occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on August 31, claimed the life of one woman and left another person injured.
Medics and troopers arrived to find a heavily damaged 2013 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2011 Peterbilt 386 commercial truck at the scene. Officials confirmed that the Chevrolet, driven by 56-year-old Mary Sparks of Shreveport, crossed the center line for reasons still under investigation and collided head-on with the semi-truck. Sparks, who was wearing her seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Peterbilt was also properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. Emergency crews provided treatment before transporting the injured driver to a nearby hospital for further care. Authorities temporarily blocked off portions of the highway while investigators collected evidence and worked to determine the factors leading up to the crash.
Louisiana State Police emphasized that standard toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not released further updates on the condition of the injured driver.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Mary Sparks during this difficult time. We extend our best wishes for healing and recovery to all those impacted by this tragic incident.
Fatal Truck Accidents in Louisiana
Sunday morning’s tragic collision in Bossier Parish highlights the grave risks associated with head-on crashes involving commercial vehicles on rural state highways. Louisiana Highway 3, especially in the early hours, sees a mix of local and long-haul traffic. Limited lighting, fatigue, and narrow two-lane stretches can increase the likelihood of such incidents. In this case, the fatal outcome serves as a stark reminder of how quickly road conditions and unexpected circumstances can turn deadly.
While the investigation remains ongoing, early reports suggest that Sparks’ vehicle crossed the center line, an action that can occur due to driver fatigue, medical episodes, or other momentary lapses. When passenger vehicles collide with fully loaded semi-trucks, the results are often catastrophic due to the size and force disparity.
State authorities and transportation safety advocates continue to encourage drivers to remain alert, especially during early morning or overnight hours when fatigue-related crashes are more common. For commercial drivers, maintaining situational awareness and adhering to safety protocols is vital not just for their own well-being, but for the safety of every driver sharing the road.
