Brunswick, NY (August 10, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Friday afternoon on Grange Road, resulting in the death of the rider, Chad Niles, 40, from Buskirk. According to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 12:12 p.m., following reports that Niles had been driving erratically.

Witnesses reported seeing Niles crossing double yellow lines to pass multiple vehicles before the crash occurred. His motorcycle collided with two other vehicles, though there are no details yet on whether the occupants of those vehicles were injured.

Despite attempts to treat Niles at the scene, the injuries he sustained were fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The Sheriff’s Office issued a statement asking the public to keep the family and friends of all involved in their thoughts during this difficult time.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the cause of the crash, and they have expressed gratitude to the Troy Police Department for their assistance with the investigation.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Chad Niles, as well as all those affected by this tragic incident.

Motorcycle Accidents in New York

Motorcycle accidents are particularly dangerous due to the vulnerability of riders, as they have little protection compared to those in passenger vehicles. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, motorcycle fatalities remain a serious concern, especially when reckless driving or unsafe lane changes are involved.

In cases like this, where the rider was reportedly driving erratically and crossing double lines, the risk of fatal accidents increases dramatically. It is crucial for motorcyclists to always operate their vehicles within the law, maintain control, and avoid high-risk maneuvers, particularly around other vehicles.

For those affected by motorcycle crashes, immediate medical attention is essential, even for injuries that seem minor at first. Riders should also document the accident scene, and those involved may need to consult legal professionals to ensure fair treatment when it comes to insurance claims or legal proceedings.
