Butler County, AL – Marcus McQueen Killed in Fatal Crash on I-65 Near MM 132

August 4, 2025

Butler County, AL (August 4, 2025) – A tragic early-morning crash on Interstate 65 has claimed the life of a Greenville man, according to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The fatal accident occurred near mile marker 132, just north of Greenville in Butler County.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Marcus A. McQueen. Authorities say McQueen sustained fatal injuries after his vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle on I-65. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after the collision to assist with the scene and assess those involved. The occupants of the other vehicle have not yet been identified, and their conditions were not immediately released. The collision caused temporary delays as troopers from ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division began their investigation and cleared the area.

The investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Marcus McQueen during this time of profound loss.

Rear-End Collisions and Highway Fatalities in Alabama

Rear-end collisions, especially those occurring at high speeds on interstates like I-65, can result in devastating outcomes. The early-morning crash that killed Marcus McQueen is a sobering example of how quickly these types of incidents can turn fatal—particularly when seatbelt use is not observed.

In Alabama, highway crashes remain a leading cause of traffic-related deaths. Fatigue, speed, distraction, and following too closely are all common factors in rear-end accidents. On high-speed roadways such as I-65, the margin for error is extremely small, and failure to use a seatbelt significantly increases the likelihood of fatal injury.

Seatbelt compliance remains a critical safety issue. According to state data, a large percentage of crash fatalities involve unrestrained drivers or passengers. While it’s unclear what led to the impact in this case, the fact that McQueen was not belted in may have played a key role in the severity of his injuries.

The aftermath of fatal highway accidents is never easy for loved ones. In addition to grief, families often face legal and financial questions related to insurance, liability, and survivor benefits. Having access to professional support can help ensure they’re not navigating these challenges alone.
