Who Has Your Oxnard Crash Report

If you’re involved in a crash on a city street in Oxnard, the Oxnard Police Department will handle the investigation. You can reach their traffic investigators at (805) 385-7749. Highway stretches like Fifth Street and Oxnard Boulevard are now under city control, so accidents there are also handled by Oxnard Police. Crashes on US 101 or on unincorporated county roads, such as Rice Avenue south of Fifth Street, are investigated by the California Highway Patrol. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the unincorporated areas around the city.

To get a collision report from Oxnard Police, contact the Records Unit at 251 South C Street. The public window is open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can call 805-385-7650 to make a request or set up an appointment. For online requests, the department uses CrashDocs as its official service.

If you need a report from the California Highway Patrol, fill out form CHP 190 and submit it in person at any CHP office, or mail it to the office that handled your crash. Be sure to include a copy of your photo ID or a notarized signature. The fee is $10 for up to 25 pages.

California also requires drivers to file their own report after a crash. If anyone was hurt or killed, or if the property damage is over $1,000, you or your insurance agent must send an SR-1 form to the DMV within 10 days, no matter who was at fault. This is separate from the police report, which does not replace the SR-1.

Not sure which agency holds your report? We can help you find out. Statewide, our California crash resources and accident reports gather guides and reports in one place.

The California Office of Traffic Safety’s 2023 rankings are the most recent published figures for Oxnard. The Oxnard Police Department’s 2025 year-end statistics release covered crime and gave no traffic totals. The same state rankings counted 178 speed-related collisions, 143 collisions between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m., and 119 hit-and-run collisions in the city in 2023.

According to the city’s Local Road Safety Plan (adopted January 2023), pedestrians were involved in 10% of all injury crashes, but made up 28% of those killed or seriously hurt. Pedestrians or bicyclists were involved in 52% of fatal crashes. The worst year covered by the plan was 2019, with 74 crashes resulting in death or severe injury.

Oxnard’s Highest-Crash Intersections and Corridors

The Local Road Safety Plan found that nearly 90% of Oxnard crashes from 2016 to 2020 happened at or near intersections. Four-lane roads make up only 12% of city streets, but they account for more than half of all injury collisions (53%). Most of the high-crash locations below are either on the city’s official hot spot lists or are current road safety projects.

Saviers Road, from Laurel Street to Pleasant Valley Road, is a main hot spot in the city’s safety plan. The intersection at Pleasant Valley Road has the highest crash score, with 19 crashes (five of them fatal or severe) from 2016 to 2020. Bard Road and Saviers, another dangerous intersection, saw 45 crashes in the same period, more than any other top-10 intersection. Tragically, on July 23, 2025, a pedestrian at Saviers and Wooley Road (known as Five Points) was hit by one driver who fled, then struck again by a second car and killed.

Wooley Road, from Factory Lane to Pacific Avenue, is another high-risk corridor. The intersection at Wooley and Commercial Avenue ranked fourth in the city’s safety plan, with 19 crashes (four fatal or severe) over five years. On May 2, 2026, a 51-year-old pedestrian was killed while crossing Wooley just west of Commercial Avenue when a westbound Ford Expedition struck him.

North Victoria Avenue, from Gum Tree Street to the city line, is the highest-ranked segment for serious crashes in the safety plan, with 10 collisions, three resulting in death or severe injury. The stretch from Flax Place to Gonzales Road comes in second, with 16 crashes. Police reported two recent pedestrian fatalities in this area: a 66-year-old man killed by a southbound F-150 at Curlew Way on November 25, 2025, and a 28-year-old struck by two northbound vehicles south of Teal Club Road on July 6, 2026.

Rice Avenue at Fifth Street and the rail crossing is another high-risk area. Caltrans recorded 61 crashes at this intersection and rail crossing between 2010 and 2016, an average of about nine each year. Two deadly train-vehicle collisions here (in June 2014 and February 2015) claimed three lives. The city says the state ranks this crossing as the fourth most dangerous in California. To address the problem, a six-lane bridge is being built to carry Rice Avenue over the highway and railroad tracks, with completion expected in 2029.

Ventura Road, from Fifth Street to Wooley Road, is another dangerous corridor. Its intersection with Fifth Street is the city’s second-worst in the safety plan, with 33 crashes, four of them fatal or severe.

Other high-crash intersections in Oxnard include Channel Islands Boulevard at C Street (32 crashes) and Rose Avenue at Bard Road (31 crashes). On July 24, 2026, a 59-year-old pedestrian was killed by a right-turning Tacoma at the Center Point Mall driveway on West Channel Islands Boulevard.
