Camden County, MO (August 7, 2025) – A midday crash near a construction zone in Camden County left two women injured on Tuesday after their SUV was struck by a commercial vehicle backing into the work area.
The incident occurred around 12:25 p.m. on Coffman Bend Dr, approximately 1,250 feet north of Grace Ln. According to investigators with Troop F of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2025 Ford Escape was stopped in traffic at the entrance to a work zone when the rear of a 2022 International HV506—backing toward the construction site—collided with the stationary SUV.
The Ford Escape was driven by a 70-year-old woman from Linn Creek and was carrying a 44-year-old female passenger from Camdenton. Both women sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment. Troopers confirmed that both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The commercial truck, operated by a 35-year-old man from Roach, was not damaged in the collision, and no injuries were reported for the driver. The Ford sustained minor rear-end damage but was not towed from the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sgt. M.J. Cody assisted in managing the incident and ensuring the scene was secured for work crews and emergency responders. The crash remains under investigation.
We wish the two women involved in this crash a smooth and full recovery and commend local responders for their prompt care and coordination in the work zone.
Work Zone Accidents in Missouri: Rear-End Collisions Still a Threat
Though typically designed for safety and maintenance, work zones remain common sites of roadway accidents in Missouri—particularly on rural roads and residential connectors like Coffman Bend Dr. This crash is a prime example of how quickly an accident can occur, even at low speeds, when visibility or awareness is compromised in active construction zones.
In this case, a commercial truck was backing into the work area when it collided with a stationary Ford Escape. Despite low-impact speed, the two women in the SUV required medical attention. Accidents involving large trucks, even while maneuvering slowly, can generate enough force to cause significant strain or trauma—especially to occupants of smaller passenger vehicles.
Rear-end crashes are one of the most frequently reported types of work zone incidents. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, more than half of work zone crashes statewide involve rear-end or angle collisions. These often stem from reduced lane width, unexpected stops, distracted driving, or construction-related movement such as backing or turning trucks.
For older adults and passengers with pre-existing health concerns, even minor injuries can have lingering effects. This incident emphasizes the importance of careful planning and heightened awareness when navigating or operating vehicles in or near active work areas.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed well before entering a construction zone, keep a safe distance from any vehicle or equipment ahead, and watch for signal flags, cones, and directional signage. Commercial vehicle operators also bear responsibility to confirm clear paths before reversing or changing direction within a work site.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a work zone crash, securing medical treatment and understanding your rights are vital steps in the recovery process. Delays in care or documentation can impact long-term well-being and the ability to recover damages.
