Camdenton, MO (August 18, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on Missouri Route 5 at Standing Rock Rd resulted in three injuries Saturday evening in Camden County. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on August 16, involving a young driver and an older motorist at a rural highway intersection.
Emergency responders from Lake West EMS were dispatched to the scene following reports of a serious crash. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, the driver of a 2006 Ford Fusion, an 18-year-old woman from Versailles, was attempting to turn southbound onto MO 5 from Standing Rock Rd. During the turn, her vehicle entered the path of a northbound 2013 Ford Focus operated by a 68-year-old Camdenton man.
The vehicles collided forcefully, resulting in total damage to both. Dependable Towing responded to remove the wreckage from the scene. The impact caused injuries to both drivers and a 20-year-old male passenger from Eldon who was traveling in the Fusion.
All three individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and were transported by Lake West EMS to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. The Camdenton man sustained moderate injuries, while the two occupants of the Fusion suffered minor injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the timing and visibility factors at the intersection.
We extend our thoughts to all those affected and wish each of the injured individuals a full and speedy recovery.
Rural Intersection Accidents in Missouri
Crashes at rural highway intersections like MO 5 and Standing Rock Rd are a persistent safety concern throughout Missouri. These types of accidents often occur during left or right-turn maneuvers, when drivers misjudge the speed or distance of oncoming traffic—or fail to see approaching vehicles altogether. In this case, the young driver’s turn onto MO 5 led to a direct impact with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in injuries and extensive vehicle damage.
Turning across highway lanes at uncontrolled intersections is one of the most common scenarios for serious crashes in Camden County. Many rural intersections lack traffic signals or protected turn lanes, making it difficult to navigate safely during high-traffic periods. Visibility can also be a factor, especially for younger or less experienced drivers, who may not yet have developed a full understanding of complex judgment calls at intersections.
While all parties involved in this crash were properly restrained—a fact that likely reduced the severity of their injuries—the consequences still required emergency transport and hospitalization. The fact that one of the injured parties was an older adult also underscores the increased vulnerability that comes with age, even in moderate-impact collisions.
Missouri continues to invest in rural road safety, but community education and individual driver awareness remain key. Young drivers, in particular, benefit from targeted training programs that emphasize safe merging, turning, and yielding behaviors at intersections without lights or stop signs.
Victims recovering from rural intersection crashes may face medical bills, lost wages, and emotional stress. Prompt medical care, like that provided at Lake Regional Hospital in this case, is essential—but navigating the recovery process requires more than just treatment. Access to legal, financial, and support resources can help injured parties manage the aftermath more effectively.
