Canton Township, MI (September 17, 2025) – Three individuals were hospitalized following a serious multi-vehicle crash involving two cars and a motorcycle on Michigan Ave at Lilley Rd Monday evening. The crash occurred just after 8:00 PM and prompted a significant emergency response from Canton Police and medical personnel.
Authorities reported that a gray Mini Cooper Countryman, driven by a 36-year-old man from Ypsilanti, was traveling westbound on Michigan Ave when it crossed the center median and collided with a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcycle, operated by a 52-year-old Monroe man, was heading eastbound on Michigan Ave at the time of the crash.
The impact of the collision forced the motorcycle into a maroon Nissan Maxima, which was also traveling eastbound. The Maxima was driven by a 51-year-old man, also from Ypsilanti.
Medics and fire crews worked to assist those suffering from injuries after the collision. All three drivers were transported to local hospitals for treatment. While the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed that no fatalities occurred, and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.
The Canton Police Department continues to investigate the sequence of events that led to the crash.
Our thoughts are with all those injured as they begin their recovery.
Motorcycle Crash Risks on Michigan Ave
High-traffic corridors like Michigan Ave pose elevated risks for motorcyclists due to the volume of vehicles and frequent lane changes. Crashes involving motorcycles often result in more serious injuries, especially when collisions involve multiple vehicles and high-speed travel.
In 2024, Michigan saw over 2,700 motorcycle crashes, with more than 1,800 involving injuries. Many of these incidents occurred on state highways and major local roads, such as Michigan Ave, where visibility can be compromised by median layouts and heavy traffic.
Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable in crossover crashes—those in which another vehicle enters the opposing lane—because they lack the structural protection afforded to drivers in enclosed vehicles. This type of collision can result in serious trauma, even with helmet use and protective gear.
Drivers are reminded to remain within lane boundaries, obey posted speed limits, and stay alert for oncoming traffic. For those injured in motorcycle or multi-vehicle crashes, immediate medical evaluation and legal guidance are essential to securing the care and compensation needed for recovery.
