Pedestrian-Involved Crashes in Illinois
Pedestrian-involved crashes often occur unexpectedly and can result in serious injury, particularly when they take place on roads not designed for pedestrian traffic. In Illinois, incidents where motorists exit their vehicles on active roadways present heightened risks due to limited reaction time for passing drivers. State crash data indicates that factors such as speed, distracted driving, and reduced nighttime visibility contribute significantly to such collisions. Motorists are urged to use hazard lights, pull fully off the roadway when possible, and remain aware of oncoming traffic if they must exit their vehicle. Safety campaigns in Illinois continue to highlight the importance of reducing speed in the presence of stopped vehicles and maintaining heightened awareness in low-light conditions.
