Cass Co, MO (September 19, 2025) – A tragic crash on northbound I-49 south of MO-2 claimed the life of a Harrisonville woman late Thursday morning. The collision occurred around 11:50 a.m. when traffic had slowed in the left lane. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Kenworth T600 failed to stop and struck the rear of a 2001 Toyota 4Runner that was stationary in traffic. The force of the impact pushed the Toyota into the rear of a 2025 Kenworth W900L.
The Toyota sustained total damage, and its driver, a 56-year-old woman from Harrisonville, was fatally injured despite wearing her seat belt. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Harrisonville EMS paramedic at 12:00 p.m. The driver of the Kenworth T600, a 54-year-old man from Deepwater, was not reported as injured, but his vehicle was totaled and towed from the site. The Kenworth W900L, operated by a 51-year-old Independence man, had no significant damage but was also towed away.
Troopers C.J. Drum and A.J. Kempa of Troop A, along with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, led the investigation. Multiple agencies, including the Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Harrisonville Police, assisted at the scene.
