Castroville, TX (January 16, 2026) – A high school student was hospitalized on Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing FM 471 near Medina Valley Middle School, shortly after leaving campus.
The incident occurred just before 7:00 p.m., when the student, who attends Medina Valley High School, was walking home following school dismissal. According to Medina County Fire/EMS, the teenage girl was found receiving immediate aid from school nursing staff who responded swiftly before emergency crews arrived.
Paramedics from Medina County transported the student to a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed that her injuries were not life-threatening.
The crash happened near a busy school zone, and authorities are emphasizing the importance of driver attentiveness during peak student movement hours, particularly during dismissal.
