Cecil County, MD (August 19, 2025) – A serious crash involving three vehicles shut down a section of Interstate 95 in Cecil County for several hours Monday morning, leaving six people injured, including two children. The collision occurred around 6:30 AM on August 18, just before Exit 100 at MD-272, according to Maryland State Police.
Preliminary reports indicate the chain-reaction crash began when a Jaguar became disabled in the left travel lane of I-95. A Ford F-350 pickup then collided with the stationary Jaguar for reasons that remain under investigation. Moments later, a Toyota Tacoma towing a boat struck the Ford, compounding the severity of the wreck.
The crash drew a major emergency response, including both ground and air medical crews. One of the two injured children was airlifted to a regional hospital for emergency care. The other child and four adults were transported by ambulance. The conditions of the victims have not yet been publicly released.
Authorities closed the southbound lanes of I-95 near the crash site to allow for rescue operations, medical evacuation, and roadway cleanup. The interstate was reopened around 9:45 AM after approximately three hours of disruption.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Maryland State Police. No charges have been announced at this time.
We extend our thoughts to all six victims and wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Maryland Highways
Highway accidents involving multiple vehicles, like the crash that occurred on I-95 near Exit 100, often result in serious injuries and extensive traffic disruptions. These incidents are especially dangerous when disabled vehicles remain in active lanes, as was the case with the Jaguar that triggered this collision.
Maryland highways like I-95 carry high-speed traffic, and when vehicles break down in travel lanes, the risk of secondary impacts increases significantly. Drivers may not have time to react, especially in early-morning conditions with limited visibility or increased commuter volume.
Emergency responders’ use of both helicopter and ambulance transport in this case highlights the gravity of the injuries sustained. Accidents involving children can be especially distressing, and medical response teams prioritize rapid evacuation to ensure timely trauma care.
Crashes involving towed equipment—such as the Toyota Tacoma with a boat—add an additional layer of hazard. Towed loads can shift, separate, or worsen the force of impact. It’s critical for drivers in Maryland to maintain safe following distances, scan for stalled vehicles, and reduce speed in high-risk areas.
For those involved in multi-vehicle crashes, the aftermath often involves complex insurance issues, long-term recovery, and questions about liability. Victims may face extended hospital stays, vehicle loss, or missed work. Seeking proper support and resources is key.
