Clay County, SD (January 17, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash near Centerville claimed the life of one driver Friday morning. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:14 a.m. on January 16 at the intersection of SD Highway 46 and SD Highway 19, about two miles south of Centerville, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 20-year-old man from Harrisburg was driving a 2025 Ram 3500 westbound on SD 46 when a 2011 Subaru Legacy, driven by a 35-year-old man from Vermillion, entered the intersection from SD 19. The two vehicles collided in the intersection and came to rest in the southwest ditch.
The driver of the Subaru, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram, also restrained, was not injured in the crash.
Officials have not yet released the names of those involved, pending notification of family members. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash, and all information currently available is preliminary.
