Interstate Crash Risks Near Charleston
Interstate corridors such as I-77 are critical for local and regional traffic, but they also present elevated risks—particularly near mile markers where entrance and exit ramps can lead to congestion, lane changes, and speed fluctuations. Crashes at locations like MM 90 often result in lane closures and traffic backups, increasing the likelihood of secondary incidents.
According to the West Virginia Department of Transportation, high-speed interstates see a disproportionate share of multi-vehicle collisions and injury-related crashes. Sudden braking, merging errors, and tailgating are among the most common causes.
Drivers are urged to maintain safe following distances, stay focused, and reduce speed in heavy traffic. Following a crash, seeking immediate medical attention and documenting the incident thoroughly are essential steps for health and legal protection.
