Chesapeake, VA (September 23, 2025) – A serious vehicle accident with injuries was reported late Sunday night on the westbound side of Interstate 64 near the High Rise Bridge in Chesapeake. Emergency personnel from Chesapeake Fire and Rescue, including Engine 24, Ladder 10, and Medigate, were dispatched to the scene shortly before midnight at approximately 11:53 p.m.
The collision occurred on the west side of the bridge, in the direction of Virginia Beach, and resulted in injuries requiring immediate medical care. First responders worked swiftly to assess and treat those involved, although the specific number of injured individuals has not yet been confirmed. Given the scale of the response, it is believed that multiple victims required assistance at the scene.
Traffic along I-64 westbound was temporarily impacted as emergency crews managed the crash site and provided aid. The High Rise Bridge area is a major transportation corridor, and incidents in this section often cause significant delays, particularly during peak hours or late-night travel periods.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with attention to potential contributing factors such as high speeds, driver fatigue, or lane-changing near the bridge entrance. Further updates may be issued by Chesapeake Police or Fire officials as the inquiry continues.
We extend our thoughts to everyone injured in this crash and hope for their full recovery.
