In densely populated cities like Chicago, incidents like the one on S Stony Island Ave underscore the dangers of high-speed, wrong-direction travel.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, head-on collisions accounted for a disproportionate number of roadway fatalities in 2024, particularly during early morning hours when visibility and driver fatigue may play a role.
