Clarke County, IA (June 30, 2025) – A man was killed and a child injured Sunday evening in a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) crash in southern Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The fatal incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on 110th Avenue in rural Clarke County.
Authorities say 45-year-old Andrew James Neisemier of Thayer was operating a Polaris UTV when the vehicle lost control, entered a ditch, and overturned. Neisemier was partially ejected during the rollover and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A juvenile passenger riding in the UTV sustained injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to a regional hospital for treatment. The extent of the child’s injuries has not been publicly disclosed but was described in crash reports as suspected serious.
The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No other vehicles were involved, and road conditions or speed may be among the factors under review.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Andrew Neisemier and hope for a full recovery for the injured child.
UTV Accidents and Rollover Risks on Rural Iowa Roads
Utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), while popular for recreation and rural transportation, carry significant rollover risks—especially when operated at high speeds or on uneven terrain. Sunday night’s deadly crash on 110th Ave in Clarke County is a tragic reminder of how quickly these vehicles can become unstable, particularly on gravel or ditch-lined rural roads.
Ejection from UTVs is a leading cause of fatal injuries in such crashes, especially when seat belts or safety harnesses are not used. Children are particularly vulnerable, as they may not be properly secured or equipped for the forces involved in a rollover. In this case, the fact that a child required airlifted emergency care indicates the severity of the impact.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, over 120 traffic-related fatalities have occurred this year statewide. Although that figure is slightly lower than the same time in 2024, off-road vehicle crashes like this one are often underreported in broader traffic fatality statistics—despite their high risk for catastrophic outcomes.
Families affected by UTV crashes are often left grappling with grief, medical decisions, and legal uncertainty. Under Iowa law, wrongful death and personal injury claims may be pursued if a crash results from mechanical failure, unsafe operation, or third-party negligence.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a serious off-road crash, securing medical and legal guidance as early as possible can protect your rights and long-term recovery.
