Clearlake, CA (September 22, 2024) – A serious single-vehicle collision late Saturday night left two women injured after an SUV slammed into a power pole along State Route 20 near the 6600 block. The crash, which occurred shortly before 11:20 p.m., resulted in downed utility lines and prompted a significant emergency response, including medical, fire, and utility crews.
Medics and firefighters from CAL FIRE and local emergency services were dispatched to the scene and arrived to find two women involved in the crash—one still inside the SUV with injuries, and the other outside the vehicle. Both individuals were assessed at the scene and received care for a variety of injuries before being transported to local hospitals for further treatment.
Authorities confirmed that the SUV struck multiple utility poles before coming to a stop. A hard closure of SR-20 was implemented shortly after 11:30 p.m. due to live wires on the ground and extensive damage to infrastructure. Power crews from PG&E and Caltrans were notified and responded with a reported 40-minute estimated time of arrival. The incident created traffic delays and caused at least one Lake County Sheriff’s deputy to divert from their original route.
Given the severity of the crash and potential electrical hazards, emergency personnel acted swiftly to secure the scene, treat the injured, and begin cleanup and investigation efforts. CHP and CAL FIRE coordinated on-site to address the risks posed by the downed lines and to manage traffic in the affected area.
Our thoughts are with both individuals hurt in this accident. We wish them a full and speedy recovery as they begin the healing process.
