Cleveland, OH (August 17, 2025) – Several people were hurt Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 90 eastbound near Eddie Rd. The crash, which occurred around 1:10 p.m., triggered a large emergency response involving Cleveland Fire and EMS units.
According to radio dispatch, Ladder 31, First Responder units, and Medic 43 were sent to the scene to assist those injured. While the exact number of vehicles involved has not been officially released, multiple cars were reported to be blocking lanes of I-90 East at the Eddie Rd exit.
Medics evaluated the injured at the scene, and at least one patient was expected to be transported to MetroHealth Medical Center for further care. The crash caused traffic delays in the area as emergency crews worked to manage the scene and clear the roadway.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-90: A Persistent Hazard
Interstate 90, one of the busiest thoroughfares in Cleveland, sees a high volume of daily traffic, making it a common site for multi-vehicle collisions—especially near high-merge zones like the Eddie Rd exit. These crashes often involve chain reactions triggered by sudden braking, speed changes, or lane changes without proper spacing.
Accidents involving multiple vehicles are particularly dangerous because they increase the likelihood of secondary impacts, vehicle spinouts, and more complex emergency rescues. Injuries can range from minor to severe, and determining liability can be more complicated when several drivers are involved.
Ohio crash data consistently shows that freeway pileups and chain-reaction crashes are more likely to occur during peak traffic hours, in construction zones, or in areas with limited escape lanes.
Drivers are urged to maintain safe following distances, use mirrors effectively when changing lanes, and remain alert during high-speed travel on urban interstates like I-90.
