Clinton County, MO(August 8, 2025) – A devastating two-vehicle crash occurred Wednesday evening at the intersection of MO-116 and County Road 145, roughly six miles west of Plattsburg. The collision left four people—including a 1-year-old girl—seriously injured and both vehicles totaled. The crash took place at approximately 5:36 p.m. and was investigated by Trooper B.D. Hahn of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities report that a 2022 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on County Rd 145 when it failed to stop at the intersection with MO-116. As the Jeep entered the crossing, it was struck on the passenger side by a westbound 2021 Chevrolet Silverado. The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, where they came to rest on their wheels facing northeast.
Emergency crews from Tri-County Ambulance responded quickly, providing urgent medical transport for all injured parties to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. The driver of the Jeep, a 28-year-old man from St. Joseph, was seriously injured. In the Silverado, the 42-year-old male driver, a 34-year-old female passenger, and a 1-year-old girl—all from Platte City—also sustained serious injuries.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Randy’s Towing of Gower due to the extensive damage. The crash site was secured with assistance from the Clinton and Buchanan County Sheriff’s Departments. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
We extend our deepest concerns to those injured and their families and hope for a full and swift recovery for everyone affected.
Intersection Crashes in Missouri
Rural intersection collisions remain a pressing concern in Missouri, particularly at junctions without traffic lights. The crash at MO-116 and County Rd 145 illustrates the severe consequences that can arise when a driver fails to stop at a marked intersection. In this case, the resulting impact was catastrophic—sending multiple victims, including a toddler, to the hospital with serious injuries.
Clinton County’s rural roadways, while less congested than urban corridors, pose their own dangers. Many of these roads lack clear visibility, and stop signs may be overlooked or approached too quickly. This crash serves as a tragic reminder of how critical it is to obey all posted signage and approach rural intersections with caution.
Intersection accidents involving failure to yield are among the most dangerous, often leading to side-impact or “T-bone” collisions that leave occupants on the struck side of the vehicle particularly vulnerable. Emergency responders in Clinton County provided timely care, but the severity of injuries in this crash underscores the importance of proactive roadway safety measures.
When families are affected by serious crashes—especially those involving children—the road to recovery can be long and uncertain. Medical care, trauma, and long-term rehabilitation are just a few of the challenges victims may face.
