Colfax, WA (August 11, 2025) – A woman was killed and three others injured Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Thorn Creek Rd, just north of St. John in Whitman County. The Whitman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. after reports of a serious accident involving four occupants.
Authorities said the westbound vehicle left the roadway, struck a large water drain, and went airborne before coming to rest on its wheels. The driver and passenger, 50-year-old Sonia Leas, were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Tragically, Leas succumbed to her injuries en route.
Two additional passengers sustained minor injuries and were treated at another hospital before being released. Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
