Columbus, OH (September 16, 2025) – A deadly crash occurred Monday morning on State Route 104 at Haul Rd, leaving one person dead. The collision took place shortly after 9:30 a.m. when a Volvo semi traveling westbound on Route 104 was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee moving in the same direction.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, the Jeep collided with the rear side of the semi’s trailer and became lodged underneath it for a short distance before coming to rest on the south side of the westbound lanes. The driver of the Jeep, who was the sole occupant, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The semi driver was not injured.
Initial reports indicated that three vehicles might have been involved, but police later confirmed that only the Jeep and the semi were part of the crash. Route 104 was disrupted for several hours while emergency personnel worked the scene and investigators documented evidence. Columbus police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
Truck Accidents in Ohio
Monday’s crash on Route 104 underscores the dangers that arise when smaller vehicles collide with large commercial trucks. Semi-trailers, because of their size and weight, create devastating outcomes in collisions, particularly when passenger vehicles become trapped beneath trailers. Intersections and stretches of roadway near Haul Rd are heavily used by both commuters and commercial traffic, which increases the potential for serious crashes.
Ohio reports hundreds of fatal crashes each year, with a significant portion involving large trucks. Contributing factors often include blind spots, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, or speed differentials between trucks and smaller vehicles. The fatal outcome of this incident highlights how even a single miscalculation on the roadway can have tragic consequences.
Safety officials emphasize the importance of giving tractor-trailers additional space, avoiding sudden maneuvers near large trucks, and remaining alert while traveling along major routes such as Route 104. Community awareness and defensive driving play critical roles in preventing similar tragedies.
