Columbus, OH (November 3, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian accident occurred early Sunday morning in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus, leaving one adult dead and prompting an ongoing hit-and-run investigation. The collision happened at approximately 1:37 a.m. on November 2 at the intersection of East 11th Avenue and North 5th Street.
According to the Columbus Police Department, a red Mitsubishi Lancer was traveling westbound on East 11th Ave when it suddenly left the roadway and struck a pedestrian standing near or within the intersection. After the impact, the vehicle fled the scene. Officers later confirmed that at least five other individuals were inside the Mitsubishi at the time of the crash.
Emergency medical teams responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where they were sadly pronounced dead a short time later. The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released, pending family notification.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the driver to veer off the road and are actively searching for the individuals involved in the fleeing vehicle. The crash scene remained closed for several hours Sunday morning as detectives processed evidence and canvassed for witnesses.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Fatalities in Ohio
Pedestrian fatalities caused by hit-and-run drivers are a devastating reality in urban areas like Columbus, where foot traffic and vehicle activity often overlap. The incident on East 11th Avenue in Weinland Park highlights the tragic consequences that can unfold when drivers lose control and fail to remain at the scene.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes a pedestrian, the result is often catastrophic. Victims have little to no protection against the impact, and in many cases, as seen here, the injuries prove fatal. Early morning hours pose an even greater risk due to low visibility and a higher likelihood of impaired or distracted driving.
Fleeing the scene of a crash is a felony offense in Ohio, particularly when it results in serious injury or death. Not only does this delay lifesaving medical care, but it also deprives families of accountability and closure. Law enforcement agencies treat these investigations with urgency, relying on surveillance footage, eyewitness reports, and forensic evidence to identify those responsible.
Weinland Park, located just north of downtown Columbus, is a residential neighborhood bordered by student housing, small businesses, and busy corridors like E 11th Ave. The mixed-use nature of the area demands heightened caution from drivers—particularly during early morning and late-night hours.
Families affected by fatal pedestrian crashes often face not only emotional devastation but also the burden of sudden expenses, unanswered questions, and complex legal challenges. That’s why it’s critical to ensure they receive the care, advocacy, and resources they need during such a traumatic time.
