Conway, MO (May 14, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 44 overpass near Conway left one man injured Monday night. The incident occurred at approximately 8:26 p.m. on May 12 and was investigated by Trooper J.C. Southwood of the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
According to the official report, a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck was traveling westbound when it failed to yield to an oncoming 2009 BMW 128i traveling eastbound. The resulting impact caused significant damage to the BMW, which had to be towed from the scene by C&S Towing. The Freightliner sustained minor damage and was secured roadside.
The driver of the BMW—a 33-year-old man from Conway, MO—suffered moderate injuries in the crash and was transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital in Lebanon. The semi-truck driver, a 24-year-old man from Fresno, CA, was reportedly uninjured and was wearing his seat belt at the time.
Authorities confirmed that both drivers were properly restrained. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our well wishes to the injured driver and hope for his full recovery.
Yielding Violations and Semi-Involved Crashes in Missouri
Crashes involving commercial trucks, especially on or near interstate overpasses, carry increased risk due to size and visibility limitations. In this case, a reported failure to yield by the semi-truck driver led to the eastbound passenger vehicle crashing into the side of the larger truck—a scenario that often results in severe damage for the smaller vehicle.
Yielding violations are a frequent contributing factor in multi-vehicle accidents across Missouri, particularly at merging points, overpasses, and intersections where traffic flow isn’t always clearly managed. Interstate 44, a major commercial corridor, sees a mix of local traffic and long-haul freight vehicles—creating dangerous situations when drivers misjudge gaps or right-of-way timing.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, commercial vehicle-related crashes, while less frequent than standard passenger vehicle incidents, are more likely to result in injury due to the weight and force of impact. Fortunately, in this case, the use of seat belts likely helped minimize the severity of the injuries sustained.
Victims in these incidents often face challenges including vehicle loss, hospital bills, and the complicated process of dealing with insurance providers—particularly when commercial liability policies are involved.
If you or someone you love has been injured in a crash involving a semi-truck or a yielding violation, it’s important to act quickly and seek proper support.
