Cooper, MO (August 24, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash occurred Friday afternoon on I-70 westbound at the 111 mile marker in Cooper County, resulting in a vehicle overturn with injuries. The incident happened around 3:30 PM and involved a 2019 Toyota Camry and a 2009 Acura MDX.
Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims. The 18-year-old female driver of the Toyota Camry, from California, MO, sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia for further evaluation. She was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. The 22-year-old female driver of the Acura MDX, from Columbia, was reportedly uninjured and was also wearing a seatbelt.
The crash occurred when the Acura MDX swerved to avoid another vehicle that entered the roadway from the median. In doing so, the MDX struck the Camry, causing it to overturn and come to rest upright. The Camry sustained total damage, while the Acura had minor damage. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Nash Towing of Boonville.
Troopers from Troop F, including Tpr. T.G. Johnson and Tpr. B.S. Romano managed the scene and initiated an investigation into the incident, which temporarily slowed westbound traffic on the interstate.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver and we wish her a full recovery.
Rollover Accidents on Missouri Interstates
Rollover crashes on major interstates like I-70 in Cooper County are among the most hazardous types of collisions due to the high speeds and force of impact involved. These accidents often occur during sudden evasive maneuvers, such as swerving to avoid other vehicles, as seen in this incident.
While modern vehicles are built with safety features to reduce the likelihood of rollovers, certain conditions—including sharp turns, high speeds, and uneven terrain—can still lead to a vehicle flipping over. Fortunately, the Toyota Camry in this crash landed on its wheels, which may have lessened the severity of the injuries sustained.
In Missouri, I-70 is a major transportation artery with heavy traffic volumes and frequent construction zones. These factors increase the chances of sudden lane shifts and unpredictable driving behavior, making it vital for motorists to stay alert and maintain safe following distances.
Drivers are encouraged to remain calm and avoid overcorrecting when reacting to unexpected hazards. Practicing defensive driving techniques and allowing ample room for maneuvering can help prevent dangerous rollovers and multi-vehicle crashes.
