Motorcycle Crashes in Missouri
Motorcycle riders face significantly higher risks of injury in collisions with passenger vehicles, especially when lane changes are involved. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Sunday’s crash was caused when the SUV moved into the motorcycle’s lane, striking it and causing both occupants to be ejected. Even with protective gear and helmets, riders are highly vulnerable to serious harm in these situations.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation data, motorcycle crashes account for a disproportionate number of roadway injuries and fatalities compared to other vehicle types. The most common contributing factors include drivers failing to check blind spots, unsafe lane changes, and following too closely. Motorcycles are less visible than larger vehicles, making driver awareness a critical factor in prevention.
Local Accident Reports urges all motorists to double-check blind spots and mirrors before changing lanes, and for motorcyclists to remain alert to surrounding traffic.
