Crockett, CA (September 13, 2025) – A fatal crash involving multiple vehicles and a reported illegal sideshow activity occurred early Friday morning on westbound Interstate 80 at the Cummings Skyway off-ramp. The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls.
According to CHP dispatch logs, a large group of approximately 100 vehicles was reported exiting I-80 to gather near the Pomona offramp. Witnesses described the group engaging in a sideshow, with vehicles performing dangerous maneuvers and blocking traffic. Moments later, chaos ensued as a pedestrian was struck—reportedly by one of the sideshow vehicles—and several other vehicles crashed in the aftermath.
Emergency crews arrived and located the pedestrian beneath the Cummings Skyway onramp. Fire personnel confirmed that the male victim had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Initial reports also mentioned that more than one person may have jumped or fallen from the onramp during the incident. However, only one fatality has been confirmed as of this report.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for the westbound lanes and onramps, shutting down portions of the freeway for several hours as the investigation and cleanup continued. All lanes were later reopened around 5:36 a.m.
The identity of the deceased individual has not yet been released. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the sideshow participants or spectators directly contributed to the fatal collision.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the person who lost their life in this tragic event.
