Crosby, TX (January 17, 2026) – A deadly crash on the Crosby Freeway (Highway 90) claimed the life of a construction worker and left another critically injured Friday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 9:35 p.m. near FM 2100, where road crews were working along the eastbound lanes.
Officials say the driver, a man in his early 20s, was traveling eastbound on Highway 90 when he suddenly veered out of his lane for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle struck two construction workers who were working along the roadway at the time.
Both injured workers were airlifted to nearby hospitals. Tragically, one of the workers was later pronounced dead. The other remains in critical but stable condition as of the latest update.
Witnesses at the scene told deputies that the driver did stop after the collision. A field sobriety test was administered and confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. No charges have been filed, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine what led to the crash and whether additional factors such as distraction, fatigue, or road conditions may have contributed.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the worker who lost their life, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured individual.
