Cullman County, AL (April 16, 2025) – A tragic boating accident during a competitive fishing event on Smith Lake claimed the life of one person Tuesday, according to the Cullman County Coroner and officials with Major League Fishing (MLF).
The deadly incident occurred on April 15, 2025, during the Tackle Warehouse Invitational, a prominent tournament hosted by MLF. Multiple boats participating in the event were involved in the crash. Among those confirmed to be part of the collision was professional angler Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia.
First responders rushed to the scene on the water after receiving reports of the crash. Despite rescue efforts, one fatality has been confirmed. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the deceased, pending notification of next of kin.
MLF spokesperson Joe Opager released a statement expressing sympathy and emphasizing the organization’s commitment to supporting all those affected. “Out of respect for those involved, and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no further details will be released at this time. MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency officials,” he stated.
