Dallas, TX (August 24, 2025) – A tragic hit-and-run accident near downtown Dallas claimed the life of beloved local comedian Henry Cruz early Saturday morning. Cruz had just finished a Friday night set at Shark’s Comedy Club in downtown Dallas, where he was widely cherished for his wit and warm presence.
Around 2 a.m., Cruz was walking with friends from Deep Ellum toward downtown when a vehicle exited a ramp and struck him. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene. Emergency responders from Dallas Fire and Rescue rushed Cruz to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident and working to identify the hit-and-run driver.
Our deepest condolences go out to Cruz’s friends, family, and the entire comedy community.
Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Fatalities in Texas
Pedestrian fatalities in hit-and-run crashes remain a pressing issue in cities like Dallas. The incident involving Henry Cruz is a painful reminder of how vulnerable pedestrians are in urban environments, especially during late-night hours. Hit-and-run drivers not only leave victims behind but also hinder immediate aid that could save lives.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, pedestrian deaths have continued to rise, with thousands reported statewide each year. Many of these involve drivers who fail to yield, drive under the influence, or recklessly flee accident scenes. The legal consequences for fleeing after causing a fatal crash are severe, yet such cases still occur too frequently.
The grief expressed by Cruz’s friends resonates beyond the local comedy scene—it reflects a broader loss felt when someone is taken by a preventable tragedy. Dallas residents are reminded to remain cautious near exit ramps and urban intersections, both as drivers and pedestrians.
