Darke Co, OH (August 21, 2025) – A 30-year-old man was hospitalized early Thursday morning after a violent single-vehicle crash on State Route 49 in Darke County that caused his vehicle to split into two pieces. The crash occurred around 3:43 a.m. in the 11,000 block of SR-49, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies and EMS units responded to the scene to find a 2001 Honda Civic had left the roadway and slammed into a utility pole. The impact was so severe that the vehicle split apart. According to investigators, the front half of the car continued into a nearby bean field, while the rear half re-entered the roadway and came to rest.
The driver, identified as Kyle Lecompte, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Despite the dramatic nature of the crash, no other vehicles or individuals were involved.
Authorities noted that Lecompte showed signs of alcohol impairment at the scene. He has been cited for Operating a Vehicle While Impaired (OVI) and failure to control a motor vehicle. The crash remains under active investigation.
