Darlington County, SC (September 1, 2024) – Two young women were killed and several others were injured in a serious two-vehicle collision in Darlington County. The crash happened around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 15 and Bethlehem Road, about 11 miles north of the Darlington Raceway, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The Darlington County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victims as 21-year-old Jessica Sturdivant and 19-year-old Jasa Sturdivant. Authorities said the sisters were riding in a 2006 Honda sedan that was traveling north on U.S. 15 when a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup, heading east on Bethlehem Road, crossed the intersection and collided with the Honda.
Troopers reported that the driver of the Honda was killed at the scene, though it has not yet been determined which of the sisters was behind the wheel. Both passengers in the Honda were seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. One of the sisters later died at the hospital, while the other passenger’s condition has not been released.
The pickup truck’s driver was also injured in the crash, but officials have not provided details about their condition. No other injuries were reported. The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Sturdivant family and wish strength and healing to those injured.
Deadly Collisions in South Carolina
Fatal crashes like the one that claimed the lives of Jessica and Jasa Sturdivant are tragic reminders of the dangers present on South Carolina’s roads. Intersections such as U.S. 15 and Bethlehem Road are especially hazardous due to cross-traffic and speed differences between highways and connecting roads.
When large vehicles like pickup trucks collide with smaller passenger cars, the outcomes are often severe. In this case, the Honda carried multiple occupants, all of whom suffered devastating consequences. Investigators will examine factors such as right-of-way, speed, and visibility in determining the cause of the collision.
South Carolina continues to report high numbers of fatal crashes each year, with young adults making up a significant portion of victims. Beyond the statistics are grieving families and communities, who face profound loss and ongoing questions about safety.
Families dealing with the aftermath of deadly crashes often face medical expenses, funeral costs, and the emotional burden of losing loved ones. In times like these, support and guidance become essential.
