Hit-and-Run Accidents in Volusia County
Incidents like the hit-and-run at Dahlia Rd and 5th Ave in DeLand highlight the dangers and legal consequences of leaving the scene of an accident. In Florida, it is a felony to flee after a crash that results in injuries, and authorities take such cases seriously.
Volusia County has seen an uptick in hit-and-run crashes in recent years, particularly in residential neighborhoods and lower-visibility intersections. These incidents often leave victims vulnerable and delay necessary medical attention.
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Department urges drivers to stay at the scene, render aid if possible, and call emergency services immediately. Leaving the scene can not only worsen legal consequences but also endanger lives.
Victims of hit-and-run crashes should seek immediate medical care and provide any available information—such as witness accounts or surveillance footage—to help identify the fleeing driver.
