DeSoto County, FL (August 18, 2025) – A driver was killed Sunday evening in a collision involving a semi-truck at the intersection of State Road 760 and State Road 31, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The fatal crash occurred around 7:30 PM and remains under active investigation.
FHP reports that the victim was traveling east on SR 760, just west of SR 31, when they attempted to make a left turn in front of a southbound semi-tractor trailer approaching on SR 31. The front of the semi struck the side of the smaller vehicle, causing it to spin and veer off the road.
The car came to rest on the grassy shoulder. Emergency medical crews arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the smaller vehicle to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead from their injuries. The identity of the deceased driver has not been publicly released pending notification of family members.
The driver of the semi was not reported to be injured. Traffic in the area was temporarily affected while crews worked to clear the roadway and conduct a preliminary investigation.
