DeSoto Parish, LA (September 8, 2025) – A deadly collision early Saturday morning involving a saltwater tanker and a pickup truck claimed the life of a Texas man near the rural crossroads of Louisiana Highway 169 and Louisiana Highway 172.
Just after 6:30 a.m. on September 6, deputies from the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office and troopers from Louisiana State Police responded to the scene of the violent two-vehicle crash. Investigators determined that a 2025 Mack Pinnacle saltwater tanker was traveling southbound on LA-169 when it entered the intersection at the same time as a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, which was approaching from LA-172.
The two vehicles collided in the intersection under still-unclear circumstances. The pickup truck’s driver, identified as 34-year-old Zapien German of Carthage, TX, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle upon impact. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the tanker was properly restrained and did not suffer any injuries.
Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or other factors played a role in the collision.
