Dewey Beach, DE (August 31, 2025) – A 28-year-old woman was injured Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Coastal Highway in Dewey Beach. The incident happened at approximately 7:20 PM near Dagsworthy Avenue, according to the Dewey Beach Police Department.
Investigators reported that the pedestrian, a woman from Columbia, MD, was crossing westbound in the marked crosswalk when she was struck by a northbound Cadillac Escalade. Surveillance video confirmed that the crosswalk lights were functioning properly at the time of the crash.
The victim remained conscious after the collision and was transported by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department to Beebe Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Escalade, a man from Alexandria, VA, stayed on scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Authorities determined he was at fault and issued multiple traffic summonses before releasing him. Delaware State Police Aviation Trooper 2 was initially alerted but ultimately not utilized for transport.
The Dewey Beach Police Department is continuing to investigate and is encouraging anyone with additional information to call 302-227-1110.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we hope for her full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Delaware
Crashes involving pedestrians along Coastal Highway in Sussex County highlight the risks in areas with heavy foot traffic, especially during summer weekends when tourism and nightlife are at their peak.
