Failure-to-Yield Accidents in Missouri
Failure-to-yield violations remain a leading cause of intersection and cross-traffic collisions in Missouri. These crashes often occur when one driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle, resulting in a side-impact collision. In Sunday’s crash on MO-59, the Missouri State Highway Patrol determined that the Honda Accord entered the path of the Hyundai Elantra, causing the impact.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation data, failure-to-yield crashes are more likely to cause serious damage due to the angle and force of the collisions. Even when seat belts are worn, the occupants on the struck side of the vehicle face a higher risk of injury. Safety officials recommend that drivers take extra time to ensure intersections are clear before proceeding, particularly on roadways with higher speed limits.
Local Accident Reports urges drivers to remain vigilant at intersections and yield appropriately to oncoming traffic.
